Jared biblical figure.

The biblical facts about Jared, like the other long-lived patriarchs, are in the book of Genesis. In terms of the documentary hypothesis, the passage about Adam’s descendants (Genesis 5: 1-32) is attributed to the Priestly source. A parallel passage (Genesis 4: 17-22), which contains a genealogy of the descendants of Cain, is attributed to the Jahwist, another old version of the same original genealogy. The two genealogies contain seven similar names, and the Jahwist version of the genealogy has Irad in place of Jared.

His father Mahalalel, great-grandson of Seth, son of Adam, 65 years old when Jared was born. In the apocryphal Book of Jubilees, his mother’s name is Dina.

Jubilee states that Jared married a woman whose name is written interchangeably as Bereka, Baraka, and Barakah, and the Bible speaks of Jared having a father to become sons and daughters ( Genesis 5:13 ). Of those children, only Enoch is correctly named, born when Jared was 162 years old ( Genesis 5:18, 5: 22a, 05:24, Hebrews 11: 5b, Jude 14-15 ).

Enoch married Edna, according to the Jubilees, and the only grandson named after Jared is from Enoch son Methuselah, the oldest man mentioned in the Bible ( Genesis 05:18,05:21, 05:27 ).

Also, Jared was an ancestor of Noah and his three children. Jared’s age was about 962 years old when he died, becoming the second oldest of the people mentioned in the Hebrew Bible and the Septuagint. In the Samaritan Pentateuch, his age was 62 in paternity and only 847 in death, making the oldest Noah and Jared the seventh oldest.
